Hair Stylist?

I'm only 15 but I know that when I get older I want to be a hair stylist. I can cut hair I can style and dye hair but I don't know how to pursue this dream. What kind of small jobs (if any) can/should I get to help with this? also what are good colleges for hair styling to go to please help I really want to have this as a career I just don't know how to get started. thanks for the help :)

Hair Stylist?

You go to beauty school.

Hair Stylist?

Start applying at local salons. You start out sweeping floors, but eventually, you move up. Ask the really good stylists you know what schools they went to.

Hair Stylist?

You have to go to a cosmetology school.OR..you can be an apprentice for a year or 2 depending what state you live.

Hair Stylist?

Depending on your state, there isn't much you can do to prepare. Requirements vary by state, but minimum age is 17 - 18 years old, and a GED or high school diploma are required as well. Just watch closely when you go the salon to get your hair done. Some states allow salon assistants, some still even allow you to be an apprentice stylist and forego school altogether (but the time it takes to get your license is somewhere around 3 - 4 years, rather than the 1 to 2 years to get licensed by going to a school).

Good luck. You will love it when you get there. :-)

Hair Stylist?

I don't know what the other state rules are.. but i do know California... so i will tell you what you need here

first off you need to be 16 years or older

you need at least a 10th grade education

some of the high schools in the area have an after school part time program called ROP and you can go to beauty college for free.. except you have to buy the supplies you need.. sissors combs and things like that

after age 18 you can go through some of the local jr. collages for free beauty schooling

it will require you to attend full time

both of these options will equal 1600 hours (about a year of school)

go to your own school and ask the counselors what you need to do for your career choice. I am sure they would be happy to help you find your path

Good Luck

Hair Stylist?

start off as a shampoo girl and ask around to what beuty colleges the stylists went to. get your info, finish highschool, apply at the college you want to attend to get your license, apply for a job, and maybe someday you'll get your own salon.
